Gribbles Molecular Science (GMS) is the biotechnology subsidiary of the Healthscope Group of Companies. Healthscope employs over 10,000 people and has laboratories throughout Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

GMS specialises in developing and providing a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art genomic applications for a variety of market sectors. Just some of these sectors include human and animal health care, prenatal genetic diagnostics, pharmacogenomics, predictive testing, food and water quality testing, seed varietal testing, as well as forensic DNA analysis. GMS also provides a comprehensive genotyping, sequencing and SNP analysis service to both research and industry groups.

GMS has purpose built laboratories that enable the genetic analysis down to single cell level. With the Sequenom MassArray and Megabace 1500 platforms, GMS has the capacity and throughput for high volume, rapid sample analysis. Our laboratories have been accredited to ISO 17025 by NATA, ensuring the highest level of quality.

GMS has strong collaborative links with a number of partners, including Griffith University in Australia, where Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Ian Findlay is appointed to the Chair of Molecular Diagnostics in the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science.

Human and Animal Healthcare
GMS provides a comprehensive range of molecular diagnostic services including infectious and genetic disease detection for both humans and animals.

Breeding Improvement Programs
Due to the increasing cost of purchasing and maintaining purebred animals for breeding, racing, show or just general production, there is an increasing need for a range of parentage verification and genetic tests. Such services have been found to be essential by owners and breeders in maintaining accurate studbooks.

GMS currently offers DNA identity and parentage testing for most commercially valuable livestock, including beef and dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats, alpacas, pigs, dogs and cats using the most up-to-date ISAG recommended DNA marker sets.

In conjunction with animal identification testing, GMS has developed a superior process of animal tagging and tracking, that combines DNA fingerprinting with RFID tags.

Forensics
GMS is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) to perform both criminal DNA analysis, as well as parentage testing in cases of paternity disputes.

GMS specializes in single, or low cell number DNA fingerprinting that can be crucial in the outcome of criminal cases. These services are unique to GMS. Professor Ian Findlay (GMS's Chief Scientist) was the first in the world to perform a DNA fingerprint on a single cell (Nature 1997 389; 555-556).

Plants and Food
A range of plant and food quality tests are available at GMS, including GMO testing, plant quality trait markers and rapid pathogen tests for the food manufacturing industries.

Genomics, Sequencing and SNP's
GMS provides a comprehensive range of genotyping, sequencing and SNP analysis services. We utilize state-of-the-art instrumentation including both the Megabace 1500 and the Sequenom MassArray platforms. With fully equipped DNA laboratories, GMS is able to offer a more versatile and flexible platform than current systems. For example, researchers have a choice of sequencing chemistries and marker dyes allowing them to have much greater control over project design. The high throughput capabilities contribute to improved sample turnaround times and aids researchers in completing projects on time.
